The origin of the Zebra Trademark

The zebra is a very mild animal that lives in the highlands of Africa and possesses no weapons with which to fight its natural enemies. Instead, it protects itself by relying on its highly developed sense of herding.

1897		Tokumatsu Ishikawa, the founder of Zebra pen Co., Ltd.. made and marketed the first domestically produced metal nibs.
1914		Adopted the Zebra Brand/Logo and registered Zebra as a Trademark.
1945		All Zebra Facilities destroyed by Allied bombing in World War 2.
1948		A foothold for mass production was built, The number of researchers expanded and the Quality of merchandise was stabilised.
1951		Founder Takumatsu Ishikawa Honoured with Japan National award For distinguished services to Industry.
1963		Company name changed to "Zebra Co., Ltd.." And Hideaki Ishikawa became Company President.
1966		The Nagi Factory in Tochigi Pref., In Japan Commissioned.
1979		New Headquarters in Japan opened.
1982		ZEBRA PEN CORP. (USA) established.
1988		Zebra Receives the National Award for Industrial Standards.
1990		Established a Laboratory building in headquarters Site to reinforce ability to develop new products.
1992		ZEBRA PEN (UK) Ltd, established. Completed new factory, in Nogi, with a progressive new product control system.
1995		ZEBRA PEN CORP. (Canadian Division) established. Zebra Japan Launched ecology-conscious products. Subsidiary manufacturing plant established in Jakata, in Indonesia.
1997		Celebrated 100th Anniversary of Foundation.
1998		Hideaki Ishikawa became Company Chairman and Shinichi Ishikawa became Company President. A party celebrating 100th Anniversary was held. ZEBRA PEN (UK) Ltd moved to new UK and European distribution facilities. ZEBRA PEN (MEXICO) established.
2001		Factory in Mexico established. Offices in Shanghai and Taiwan opened.
2005		The new Z-Grip Ballpoint Pen Launched, archives record sales.
2007		ZEBRA PEN (UK) Launch new range of recycled, Care For Nature/Eco products.
2008		Zebra Pen (UK) introduces the NuSpiral Ballpoint Pen into the UK Market.
2009		Launch of new Z-PM and Z-WM Markers and new Rollerball range.
2009/10		Launch of exciting new range of funky animal print Ballpoint Pen & the new fashionable striped Expandz Ballpoint Pen.
